Dharampal Gulati, 94, is a familiar face of Indian TV. The octogenarian man is the brand ambassador of popular Masala brand MDH or Mahashian Di Hatti.
Only a few, however, know that he is also CEO of the brand, with over 80 percent stake in the company.
In the year 2016 Gulati, the second generation entrepreneur, took a whopping salary of Rs 21 cr to become the highest paid CEO of any FMCG brand in India.
“My motivation to work is being sincere in product quality sold at affordable prices. And nearly 90% of my salary goes to charity in my personal capacity,” Gulati told to Economic Times
It was his father Chuni Lal who started business in a small shop in Sialkot, Pakistan, in 1919.
Dharampal, who joined family business around 60 years back, has turned it into Rs 1500 cr empire, which runs around 20 schools and hospital, along with core Masala business.
Gulati is a fifth class dropout.
