By now you must have noticed the latest Vodafone advertisement having a cute old couple doing fun activities — getting a Tattoo done, parasailing, driving scooter — in Goa.

Shanta Dhananjayan, 73, and V.P. Dhananjayan, 78, are Vodafone India’s latest, and probably the oldest, brand ambassadors for 4G services.

The couple, Asha and Bala (their screen name), is the telcos answer to the Airtel girl. The couple promotes Vodafone’s affordable data network for features like video calling, picture sharing, maps, video streaming, FB live and all.

Interestingly, they are real life couple from Chennai and are Padma Bhushan awardees (Arts); besides being an award-winning Bharatnatyam dancers.

Both, teach dance and run a business in Tamil Nadu capital.

“Nirvana Films (production house) approached us to do this campaign. When I heard that Prakash Varma is directing the Vodafone ads, which are written by Ogilvy, we ventured into it ” Dhananjayan told afaqs.

This was not the first time when the couple featured in an advertisement film. The couple has acted in a Nerolac Paints ad in Malayalam language for the Kerala market. Besides, they did an ad for Kumaran Silks, and a local ayurvedic oil company.
