One of your friend, or maybe more, must have received a packet of Condom, wrapped in Khaki paper probably, as a wedding gift when he got married. Mostly, close friends play such pranks. Now the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh is planning do something similar in the state. Yes, the state government is set to distribute Condoms as shagun to the newly-wed couples. The couples would be given oral contraceptives. Besides, they would also be handed over a pack of towels, handkerchief, nail-cutter, comb and mirror set.

The government has no intention to play ‘prank’ with the newly-weds. The aim is to make them aware of the importance of family planning and the minimum time gap between the children. The bigger mission is to stabilize the population. The ‘nayi pahal kit for newly-weds’ or ‘shangun’ is rolled out under the scheme Mission Parivar Vikas, and it would be launched in the state on World Population Day, falling on July 11.

“The aim is to prepare newly-wed couples about responsibilities of married life,” Avneesh Saxena, project manager, Mission Parivar Vikas told times of India.
