None of us can miss Gandhi Ji’s ever smiling face printed on currency notes. Any idea where the picture was taken from? If your answer is that it is a caricature, then you are cent percent wrong.

The picture was taken in the year 1946, but it is not known who clicked it. In this picture, you can see Gandhi Ji smiling, probably, while speaking to someone who was not captured in the frame. The picture was taken in the premises of today’s Rashtrapati Bhavan, which at that time was known as Viceroy House.
Lord Frederick William Pethik-Lawrence, who is standing next to our Babu, a was British politician. He was known for ‘Women Suffrage’ movement in Britain during the 20th Century.
It is worth a mention that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) first circulated currency notes having Gandhi Ji’s image in the year 1996.
